Title: Bliss Kits, going forward
Post by: Trie on March 09, 2020, 12:13:33 pm
Heya. For those that were there last night, y'all know my spouse came and helped put together our bliss kits. She's always had a sharp mind and is quite talented with grammar/syntax/writing in general.

She read through the pamphlet front to back and noticed a couple of things that she thought could use some work. She didn't want to make it awkward during the event and asked me to mention this post-event. She understands the history of where some of the language and jokes come from but thought we could do a little better to modernize our version of the bliss kit.

She noticed several spelling errors, outdated language (we now say STInfection and not STDisease as it removes some of the stigma associated with some of the stuff we can catch while having sex), and a racist joke talking about MSG and lube.

She has volunteered her writing skills to "clean up" our pamphlet's language and layout, making them flow a little better and easier to fold.

Thoughts?

I'm all for cleaning up if it's needed. I didn't create it and will leave this to Ron and Cheryl. Thanks for her help!! After all, we're a TEAM!

I will correct any spelling errors happily. As for the layout, yes it got a bit mixed up but that is already fixed. We voted and approved the pamphlet unanimously, and therefor to edit it beyond basic spelling and continuity will take a vote with the same passing standard. The pamphlet was reviewed by 2 medical professionals including my mother in law the OBGYN who worked with me to put it together. The MSG line is from the original pamphlet by the mother house, and while it may be viewed as a joke, it is a real concern as many flavored lubes contain MSG. As for STI vs STD in the eyes of medicine they are interchangeable words, but I will correct them all to say STI as to maintain consistency in it.  Beyond these basic edits I am not wiling to change the pamphlet anymore without a unanimous vote. I've sent a copy to the mother house and Unity for their approval, if they find any issues with it then it can go back up for a vote for editing.

I wanted to follow up with this a little bit for discussion but I can't for the life of me find a lube that has MSG in it. I've searched the FDA website (and learned a lot about how lube isn't really vetted that much) and a few websites that list the ingredients in most of their lube (www.adameve.com probably being one of the best).

Can you maybe help me understand where this concern of MSG being in many lubes comes from?
